Computer Equipment Security

In the office:
  • Individual devices should be locked down whenever they’re left unattended - including laptops, PCs, printers and projectors
  • Anchor equipment to solid furniture
  • Log who is responsible for equipment and where it is so that it can be tracked
  • Advise staff not to write their passwords on post-its or near their computer
  • Ensure employees’ take responsibility for their equipment, include this in the terms of their contract.
  • Goods lifts should be disabled at the end of the day.
  • In-house mischief does happen. Keep the number of people able to arm and disarm the system to a minimum. Make sure that they are issued with individual ‘pin’ numbers. This will facilitate better management of the system.
  • Mark property with your full postcode in a permanent and prominent way.
  • Keys to security devices should be kept in the custody of authorised personnel only and either removed from the premises when they are left unattended or put in a locked safe.
